Georges Island & Waterfront Exploratour
Georges Island & Waterfront 2 Hour Exploratour
Experience Halifax from a different perspective. From the grandeur of tall ships, mega yachts, cruise ships, architecture & art installations, your sea level journey will leave you in awe. In sharp contrast to the sights, smells & sounds on the vibrant waterfront, you’ll also discover a world below the boardwalk & piers where the Atlantic is teeming with marine life – only accessible by kayak. You will be amazed by the sheer number of starfish, mussels, periwinkles, sea urchins, crabs, the odd lollygagging lobster & more. We have occasional encounters with curious seals & sea otters who are enjoying lunch on this abundant marine life or just playing alongside us in the harbour.
A stone’s throw from the Halifax Waterfront lies a lone sentinel in middle of the Harbour – Georges Island, home to Fort Charlotte & the infamous lighthouse most visitors only see from a distance. Our short, serene paddle affords sweeping views of Point Pleasant Park, McNabs Island & the open Atlantic Ocean. As we circumnavigate Georges Island, the fort, lighthouse, beaches & urban pocket wilderness come to life. In 2016, a pregnant doe courageously swam to Georges & made the island home with her doe. She returned in 2017 pregnant with 2 fawns. Endangered piping plovers & sandpipers dance along this abandoned shoreline. Eagles & ospreys hunt above. Seagulls play in the wind. Cormorants bask in the sun. And occasionally, we are lucky enough to paddle with harbour porpoise & pilot or minke whales.
We strive to make all our adventures fun, packed with moments of Zen & adrenaline, interesting facts & folklore and we travel at a comfortable pace. There is no other small group experience in Atlantic Canada which delivers so much in such a short time.
To enjoy your experience as much as your guides, be sure to pack a sense of humour and sense of adventure!
